The more you care for it, the longer it will last…

Here are some bamboo flooring care tips so that you can enjoy your floor for a long time:

  • I remember when my mom used to tell me to take off my shoes before I went in the house, like most children, somehow I didn’t listen to her and trampled in like an elephant through the forest. The worst thing you can do to your floors is not pay attention to this advice: unless you want your floor to actually look like an elephant just passed through it, you really need to keep dust, dirt and grit to a minimum, bamboo tends to scratch easily.

  • Don’t you just hate those little dents on your car’s doors caused by careless people opening their doors in the parking lot? Even the lightest bump and there it is; bamboo floors are somewhat similar, you need to be careful how you tread. Take special care with high heeled shoes, these are bound to cause damage. Also, make sure that you’re protecting your floor by using protective pads under the ends of legs of chairs and tables.

  • Watch out for rugs that have rubber backing, bamboo needs to breathe and these types of rugs increase the moisture, tending to cause discoloration and stains.

  • I used to have a dog and he loved playing fetch the ball, we had a wooden floor in my house and one day without realizing it, I threw a ball for him to chase after…I can almost hear the scratch marks being carved into the wood…bad idea. Make sure you don’t make the same mistake, the same goes for when you’re moving heavy furniture.

  • I don’t know if you’ve ever tried this, go out to your lawn and place a pot or something on it for a time. After a few days lift it up and what you’ll find is an unsightly spot where you placed the object. Well, this pretty much happens with bamboo floors as well. After time, there’s bound to be some natural fading, so you want to make sure to periodically change the position of your furniture to avoid uneven fading caused by not moving things around.

  • Protect your floors from UV light; you’ve seen what light does to shirts right? You really want to use some shades, screens or filters.

  • Always, always, always clean any spills as quickly as possible. Liquids seep easily into bamboo and you don’t want that nasty Merlot stain right in the middle of your living room floor for your guests to admire.

By following some simple care guidelines, you’ll be sure to avoid spending extra money on costly repairs and enjoy your bamboo floors for years to come.
